Do You Know How To Get Cheap Home Insurance?

by David Hill

Insuring your home is an absolute must if you value the roof above your head. Whether you own or rent your home, you have made some sort of investment in it and you should do your absolute best to protect it. After all, you never know what may happen in the future and a break in or freak storm could leave you with nothing if you do not have that peace of mind that can only come with having a cheap home insurance policy.

It is infinitely possible to save money on your home insurance. Take Mrs Andrews as a prime example of that. She now pays 138 pounds for her home contents insurance with the Cooperative Bank. However, her previous renewal quote was 339 pounds with her former provider. After getting a few quotes, she soon found that she had no need to pay so much to protect her interests.

Firstly, your postcode plays a big part in obtaining cheap home insurance. If you live in an area that has a low crime rate then you are likely to receive a cheaper quote than if you live in one with a high crime rate. Certain postcodes can really elevate your home insurance premium, whereas others can significantly lower it.

You will also find that you have cheaper home insurance quotes if you have never claimed on your previous home insurance policies. As with car insurance, not claiming for a few years will save you a lot of money on your premiums, but claiming for things that are not absolutely necessary will.

Security is also a big element of calculating the premiums associated with any home insurance policy. If you have an alarm system installed then you will save money and are more likely to get cheap home insurance than if there is no alarm installed.

You may also want to check the locks on your doors and windows. If your window locks are all operated with a key then your premium will be lower than if you just had safety locks that do not require a key. Having deadbolts on the doors will also help you to save money.

If your home has experienced natural disasters like flooding or subsidence then that will also elevate your premium somewhat. Whether your home has only experienced flooding in the last few years as a result of the changing weather or not, you premiums will still be affected. That is, if you can still get home insurance at all. Some companies will not offer you it if flooding or subsidence has ever been an issue with your property.

If your home fits all of the above specifications then cheap home insurance is within your grasp. You should get several quotes before making up your mind though to ensure that you really do get value for money!
